Zone, Group and Part Editor
The header
Section titled “The header”The header runs across the top of every screen. It holds:
- EDIT, MIX and PLAY to switch screens.
- Undo and Redo
- The save button and the Multi and Instrument IO menu. See Saving and loading.
- Tune opens the tuning menu.
- OMNI, MPE or Ch/Oct sets the MIDI channel mode.
- ! stops all sound. Right-click for All Sounds Off and All Notes Off.
- CPU and RAM readouts, and the main output meter.
- The Shortcircuit logo opens the main menu, with zoom, themes, the log and the About screen.
Layout
Section titled “Layout”The EDIT screen has the parts, groups and zones sidebar on the left and the browser on the right. The centre shows whatever is selected.
The sidebar’s PARTS, GROUPS and ZONES tabs choose what the centre edits.
- ZONES and GROUPS show the mapping pane at the top, four processors, the modulation matrix and routing, two envelopes, and the LFOs. In GROUPS these panes edit the group, and the sidebar adds the group’s trigger conditions and settings.
- PARTS shows the part’s macros and its four FX.
Cmd/Ctrl+1, 2 and 3 select zones, groups and parts. Alt+G swaps between groups and zones. Every shortcut can be changed; see Keyboard Shortcuts.
Selection
Section titled “Selection”Group and zone selections are separate, and both are kept when you switch tabs. The panes always show the lead selection; an edit applies to everything selected.
In the ZONES tab:
- Click a zone to select it.
- Shift-click to select a run of zones; Cmd/Ctrl-click to add or remove one.
- Click a group to select all its zones.
In the GROUPS tab, click a group to select it; Shift or Cmd/Ctrl-click adds to the selection.
The group and zone tree
Section titled “The group and zone tree”- The Part menu at the top of the tree chooses which part to edit.
- + at the bottom adds a group. Drop zones on it to move them to a new group.
- Drag rows to reorder zones and groups, or to move zones between groups.
- M on a group row mutes the group.
- Right-click a group or zone for rename, copy, paste, duplicate, delete and move.
Saving and loading
Section titled “Saving and loading”A whole instrument is a multi (.scm); a single part is a .scp file. The save menu offers
each in three forms:
- Only: refers to samples where they are on disk.
- with Collected Samples: copies the samples to a folder beside the file.
- as Monolith: stores the samples inside the file.
The same menu can export a part as SFZ, which keeps only a small subset of features.
Loads can be undone.
Reset Engine To starts again from an empty part, 16 empty parts, a basic synth, or your
templates in Patches/Templates. It does not ask for confirmation, and clears the undo history.
