MPE
Enabling MPE
Section titled “Enabling MPE”How Shortcircuit XT uses MIDI channels is a single setting for the whole instance. Click the channel mode button in the header, which reads OMNI, MPE or Ch/Oct, and choose MPE.
In MPE mode every part responds to every channel, and the MIDI channel button on each part is disabled. MIDI channel 1 is the global channel.
The channel mode is saved with your DAW session, not in multi files. Choose Use MPE as default for new instances from the same menu to make it the default.
MPE settings
Section titled “MPE settings”The MPE Settings submenu of the channel mode menu applies to all parts:
- Bend range: 12, 24, 48 or 96 semitones. The default is 24.
- MPE Pitch Smoothing: Off, 10ms, 25ms, 50ms or 100ms.
What MPE controls
Section titled “What MPE controls”- Pitch bend on a member channel bends that note only.
- Pitch bend on the global channel reaches the normal Pitch Bend source for all parts.
- Channel pressure on a member channel becomes the per-note Pressure source.
- CC74 on a member channel becomes the per-note Timbre source.
- Channel pressure on the global channel becomes Channel AT.
Voice Pitch Bend, Pressure and Timbre appear in the MPE category of the zone modulation matrix. Per-note pitch bend always changes pitch; pressure and timbre do nothing until you route them.
CLAP note expressions
Section titled “CLAP note expressions”In CLAP hosts, note expressions are available in the Note Expressions category of the zone modulation matrix: Volume, Pan, Tuning, Vibrato, Expression, Brightness and Pressure.
Volume, Pan and Tuning act on the note directly. The others only act through the matrix.
Polyphonic aftertouch is available as the Poly AT source.
