The Browser
The browser is on the right of every screen.
Locations
Section titled “Locations”The top of the browser lists locations: your system’s drives or home folders, User Patches, and any favourites you add. ALL, OS and FAVS filter the list.
Right-click a location to Add Favorite…, remove a favourite, or reveal it on disk. Right-click a folder in the file list to Add to Favorites.
The file list shows folders and files Shortcircuit XT can load. Double-click a folder to open it, or .. to go up.
Instrument files such as SF2, SFZ and GIG have an arrow. Click it to list the instruments and
samples inside. Multi (.scm) and part (.scp) files open the same way:
- A multi lists Full Multi, each active part, and any samples stored in a monolith.
- A part file lists the part and any samples stored in it.
Loading:
- Double-click a sample to add it to the selected group, or an instrument to import it into the selected part. A multi loads as the whole multi, and a part file or a part of a multi loads into the selected part.
- Drag files to the mapping pane, the group and zone tree, or a part card. See The Range and Importing Formats. A part dragged onto a part card loads into that part.
A sample listed inside any instrument, multi or part file loads as a sample, not as its file.
The keyboard
Section titled “The keyboard”Click a file to give the list the keyboard.
- Up and Down move through the list.
- Right enters a folder, or opens an instrument file.
- Left closes an instrument file, or goes up a folder and lands on the folder you left.
- Return does what a double-click does. On a folder it enters and selects the first entry.
- Typing a name jumps to the first entry starting with it. Letters typed within a second build up the name; typing the same letter again moves to the next match.
See Keyboard Shortcuts.
Previewing and auto-load
Section titled “Previewing and auto-load”The footer holds:
- Auto Preview, the speaker: plays a sample when you click it or move onto it with the keys. Moving onto a folder stops it. On by default.
- Launch Preview: plays the last sample clicked or moved onto.
- The slider sets the preview volume.
- AUTO-LOAD: clicking or moving onto a sample loads it into the lead zone in place of its sample. Off by default.
Auto-load keeps the zone’s key and velocity ranges, crossfades, root key, and the variant’s tuning and level. Start, end and loop come from the new sample; a sample with no loop leaves the zone unlooped. A zone with several variants is left with one. Each load is its own undo step. Samples inside instrument files are not auto-loaded.
