To Update for 3.0

This page is not part of the manual. It is a working list of everything in the rest of these pages that is stale, wrong, or missing relative to the current SpectrumWorx build, written down while converting Little Endian’s 2.9 User’s Guide into this site. Delete this page before the 3.0 release.

The conversion was faithful except where noted below under “already changed”.

Already changed during conversion

• Installing SpectrumWorx was rewritten. The original described a VST2.4 installer on Windows and a VST2.4/AU installer on macOS only. It now describes the CLAP/VST3/AU/standalone builds on Windows, macOS and Linux. Verify the packaging claims — in particular whether a program folder with Presets, Samples and Documentation is still installed, and where.
• How to use SpectrumWorx was rewritten. The original said “It can’t be opened as a standalone device”, which is no longer true.
• Settings: Registration was dropped entirely. The original section covered purchasing, demo mode and pointing the plugin at a license file on disk. Confirm the Registration tab is gone from the Settings window; if it is still there, it needs a section saying what it now does.
• Module names were corrected to the spellings the code actually ships: Exaggerator (guide said “Exagerrator”) and Burrito (guide said “Buritto”).
• The PV domain page was renamed Phase Vocoder to match the menu, and the seven variants are now listed by name with links back to their base modules. The guide listed none of them.
• The Interface said the numbered screenshot shows “a Slew Limiter, Whisperer, TuneWorx and a Slicer”. The second module in that screenshot is Frevcho, so the text was corrected.
• The host-specific paragraphs under Input mode were dropped, not rewritten — see below.

Screenshots — all seven need retaking

Every image in this manual is a 2.9-era screenshot lifted from the original PDF, at its original resolution (the largest is 960 × 365). The skin has been vectorized since, so all of them are both stale and too small for a modern display.

Undocumented in the original

• Zero padding factor. It appears as an Engine parameter in two of the screenshots and is never described anywhere in the guide. It needs a section on the Settings: Engine page.
• The Engine tab readouts. The current Engine tab shows Ripple amount, Frequency resolution, Time resolution and Latency. The guide only explains Ripple.
• PVD start and PVD stop (shown in the menu as To PV and From PV) are real modules — they are the pair that enters and leaves the phase vocoder domain. The guide mentions “PVD start” once in passing and never documents either as a module. The Phase Vocoder page needs to explain that PV modules must be bracketed by them.

Wrong or contradictory in the original

• LFO waveform count. The Waveform section says “one of seven different waveforms” and then lists eleven: Sine, Square, Triangle, Sawtooth, htootwaS, Exponent, Hrandom, Grandom, Whacho, Dirac up, Dirac down. Count the shipped set and fix the number.
• Overlap factor units. The guide gives overlap as percentages (0%, 50%, 75%, 87.5%) but the Settings: Engine screenshot displays “4” while the numbered-windows screenshot displays “75.0 %”. Decide which the UI shows and make the text match.
• Slice time value. “Module name, parameter name and value” says the Slice time reads 325 ms; the screenshot it describes reads 395 ms.
• Module count. The guide says “over fifty” and “more than fifty”. The current build has exactly 57 effects — 7 Pitch, 8 Timbre, 6 Time, 3 Space, 4 Phase, 5 Loudness, 10 Combine, 9 Phase Vocoder, 5 Miscellaneous. Worth stating the real number.
• Menu group name and order. The guide says modules come from “eight available categories”. The build has nine groups and names the phase vocoder one Phase Vocoder.

Needs re-verification against the modernized code

• External audio / DirectShow. The guide states that Windows file loading goes through DirectShow, and lists limitations that follow from it: no streaming, 8/16/packed-24-bit only, mono and stereo only, resampling capped at 48 kHz, “all VST programs share the same sample”. Check every one of these against whatever decoder the current build uses.
• Input Mode. This was the most VST2-specific section in the manual, and four paragraphs of it were dropped during conversion rather than carried over: a host reporting whether it supports I/O changes, an Ableton Live workaround that routed all changes through 4in-2out, a Reaper wrapper-window display bug, and an AU notice that the parameter is disabled under AU. The equivalent CLAP and VST3 story needs writing from scratch. The original text is in doc/manual/SpectrumWorx-User's Guide.doc in the plugin repo if you want it back.
• Load last session on startup. Carries an AU-protocol notice and warnings about hosts overriding the setting from their project files. Re-check under CLAP.
• About that CPU. Benchmarked against “an average Core 2 Duo CPU” approaching 10%. Either re-measure or drop the numbers.

• Settings: About describes finding the version and the team. Confirm what that tab shows now and who is credited.
• The Credits page is Little Endian’s original credits list. It should stay, with the modernization contributors added.
